Kiln Rigg is 800 yards from Hadrian's Wall.

Just a short stroll into the village of Wall brings you to The Hadrian (public House) which provides good traditional evening meals and a range of ales & wines. Or try the night life of Hexham Town which is only approximately 7 miles away.

Hadrian's Wall lacks shops on every corner, so make the most of shops on the way. One mile from Kiln Rigg is the small village of Humshaugh which has a very traditional nothumbrian shop and post office. Humshaugh also has a public house called the Crown which provides meals and ales.

Half a mile from us on the trail is Chollerford. Here you will find a Cafe and Garage. These facilities are the only ones for about 12 miles when walking Hadrian's Wall.

As well as the many forts, museums, temples and other remains, the area is one of outstanding beauty. This area of Northumberland is one of the least populated areas of England.

Our central positioning between Newcastle and Carlisle allows both rural and town access including access to Hadrian's Wall trail, which passes only 800 yards away and puts many of Hadrian's Wall attractions within walking distance.

Northumberland has been a border territory for almost 2,000 years. The Romans occupied Britain from the middle of the 1st century to the beginning of the 5th century and for much of this time Northumberland was the very edge of their mighty empire. In AD 122 Emperor Hadrian ordered the building of a wall across the country from the Tyne to the Solway to separate the land of the Britons from the land of the Picts.

Now officially recognised as a World Heritage Site, the remains of the central section of the Wall still snake their way across the whinstone cliff on which it was built.
